A post-graduate at University College Cork (UCC) has received the Csaba Horvath Young Scientist Award, which remembers the Hungarian chemical engineer who created high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).

Presented at HPLC 2010, the award was given to Jesse Omamogho for his presentation Structural Variation of Solid Core and Thickness of Porous Shell of 1.7-micron Core-Shell Silica Particles on Chromatographic Performance.

The recipient says: "I am most honoured to be awarded such a prestigious prize in memory of one of the founding fathers of liquid chromatography and I want to thank the Csaba Horvath committee for recognising the impact of my presentation."

His success is not the first time that UCC's Innovative Chromatography Group in the department of chemistry has received the award.

In 2006, the inaugural award was also presented to the Irish chromatography team, as Norma Scully was rewarded for her work entitled Supercritical Fluid Generated Stationary Phases for Liquid Chromatography and Capillary Electrochromatography.
