GIA has recently released its global report on the immunochemicals market, finding that the industry is set to grow to US$3.6 billion by the year 2017.
Driving the growth is advances in the area of antibody technology and increasing demand from growing research areas such as medical, agriculture, and counter bio-terrorism. There is also an increased demand for antibodies in proteome research and genome projects.
A rise in research activity around food is one key area that is driving the growth. Researchers are now involved more than ever in improving the quality and nutrition of food, and are also involved in new farming techniques as food resources become increasingly stretched.
Bio-terrorism is another market to look out for, with a big impetus behind developing effective tools for detection of hazardous toxins. In the healthcare sector, increasing demand for cancer research is driving growth, with the catalogue antibody market gaining momentum thanks to increasing supplier base along with rise in availability of a wide selection of antibodies.
