GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has progressed with its national initiative to develop healthier communities in the United States.

Entitled A Conversation on Community Health, the program started in late 2012 with forums in Philadelphia and St Louis. It aims to understand what prep work will be required to build healthy communities.

GSK is holding the events to look at innovative, community-based collaborations with health organisations, public officials and citizens that will help to improve health at a local level.

Deirdre Connelly, president of North America pharmaceuticals at GSK, explained: "At GSK, we realize that collaboration is a fundamental building block to ensuring patients have access to the opportunities and resources they need to live healthier lives and to ultimately achieving healthier communities and a healthier America."

In Denver, a meeting will take place including some of the region's leading minds in the medicine, public health, academia and government fields.

GSK will share examples of approaches across the city to state that they are overcoming systemic barriers to create better outcomes.

A panel discussion will also feature a keynote interview with John Hickenlooper from the Colorado government.

Dr.Patricia Gabow, former chief executive of Denver Health and Hospital Authority, said: "We now have the opportunity to apply our learnings to community programs for children and young adults, ensuring that we successfully meet the unique educational, health and social challenges of the next generation of Denver citizens who represent the hope and future of our city."

Recently, GSK showed its dedication towards clinical trial transparency by showing its support of the AllTrials initiative.

The project will lead to the registration of clinical trials, along with full disclosure of results and study reports.

It is hoped that the move will expand scientific understanding of the treatments.

GSK already reveals a wide amount of information on clinical trials, with summary information of each trial being shared ahead of results.
