Evosphere® Monodisperse Fully Porous particles for HPLC & UHPLC

23 Apr, 2025

Fortis Technologies are excited to launch their new range of Evosphere® columns based upon a new monodisperse fully porous silica, for application in HPLC and UHPLC. Silica has been the mainstay support in HPLC for 50 years and over this time various innovations have taken place in terms of particle size, particle composition and particle morphology, with the goal of improving chromatographic stability and column efficiency.

Monodisperse fully porous particles (MSPP) increase efficiency by reducing the A-term in the van-deemter curve. By providing a more uniform packed column bed with a less tortuous analyte flow path MSPP can increase the efficiency of a packed column by up to 60% when compared with traditional porous particles.

Evosphere® particles provide a high surface area support (350m2g-1) and as such offer a number of advantages over other high efficiency materials such as core-shell silica. Most importantly MFPP provide increased sample loading capacity over core-shell supports, with their lower surface area (~130m2g-1), as well as seamless scaling when moving from analytical separations to industrial preparative recovery.  A further advantage of MFPP over core-shell particles is the ready availability of the Evosphere preparative columns and the cost savings achieved when purchasing these columns.

Combining the high efficiency monodisperse Evosphere® particles with a range of novel stationary phases provides the ultimate in terms of sample resolution and sensitivity when trying to develop a new and improved HPLC methods. Evosphere® columns come with a choice of 8 different stationary phases, this includes hydrophobic/aromatic C18/AR and hydrophobic/polar C18/PFP chemistries. These dual functionality phases provide extra selectivity and resolution of complex mixtures such as metabolomics, Nitrosamines, lipodomics & Tocopherols.

Similarly metabolites and complex species can be resolved based upon their polarity and steric selectivity using the Evosphere® Diphenyl or Evosphere® Phenyl-Hexyl phases, whilst very polar molecules are resolved on the Evosphere® HILIC stationary phase.

Larger molecule work can also benefit from these new monodisperse particles with the 300Å pore size Evosphere® BIO now available for larger peptide and protein analysis. These phases also come with the option to be supplied in BIO inert hardware.
