Findings published in the Journal of Experimental & Clinical Cancer Research report the results of
high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis of levels of 8-oxo-7,8-dihydro-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-oxodG) in a cohort of oesophageal cancer patients.
The study was an attempt to determine how 8-oxodG levels are related to genetic susceptibility and antioxidant vitamin presence as part of an investigation into elevated oxidative stress seen in previous research.
HPLC with electrochemical detection allowed for 8-oxodG in peripheral blood mononuclear cells to be identified and analysed alongside genetic tests and vitamin measurements.
The scientists report that they were unable to prove a statistically significant connection between vitamin levels in serum, genetic polymorphisms and the 8-oxodG levels in their cancerous and control participants.
Studies disseminated in the Journal of Experimental & Clinical Cancer Research cover all aspects of oncology, with the aim of creating a high-quality discussion platform for basic, translational and clinical cancer analysis.
