MS essential to study of proteins in immunological pathologies
Jun 06 2011
In an article published by the Proteome Science Journal, Elena Lopez, Isabel Lopez, Antonio Ferreira and Julia Sequi explained that the identification of proteins and phosphorylated proteins as markers to immunological pathologies, including cancer, is important to improved diagnosis and more effective therapy.
They explained that the functioning of new drugs is of major importance, as it is the selection of specific treatment regimes that would be most beneficial for individual patients.
"The application of technologies such as immunoproteomic techniques, phosphoenrichments and mass spectrometry is crucial for the identification and quantification of protein phosphorylation sites in order to advance in clinical research," the team explained.
More investigation is needed into kinase signalling pathways in order to understand many immunology pathologies, with further quantitative analysis needed into good phosphopeptide recovery and good up- and-down phospho-regulation protein.
