Hamamatsu Photonics has released a new spectrometer that utilises a transmission grating and a new ultra high sensitivity IR Enhanced charge-coupled device (CCD).

The C9405CB forms a MEMS structure on the back side of the CCD by using state of the art laser technology. This significantly increases sensitivity at wavelengths longer than 800nm.

The CCD features a quantum efficiency of 40 per cent at 1000nm, without the need for a deep depletion structure, with its corresponding drawback of higher dark signal. The IR Enhanced CCD of the C9405CB gives ten times the sensitivity of a conventional front illuminated CCD over the range of 800-1100nm.

There is a USB interface with the standard spectrometer module which allows for a simpler PC connection and data acquisition. Sample software is supplied, which allows the end user to set measurement conditions, acquire and save data and display it graphically, thus making it quick and easy to start taking basic spectral measurements.
