Pharma lab advances sustainability with solvent recycling

18 Feb, 2025

A major pharmaceutical player is driving forward its sustainability goals by introducing a cutting-edge solvent recycling system into its labs. By integrating 17 SPR-200 units from Biotech Fluidics, the company is reducing waste and lowering its environmental impact without sacrificing performance in high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) applications.

The SPR-200 solvent recyclers are designed to seamlessly recover solvents, redirecting up to 90% of the used mobile phase back into a dedicated reservoir for reuse. This significant reduction in solvent consumption not only cuts waste but also minimises costs, contributing to the lab's overall green initiative.

What sets the SPR-200 apart is its simple, stand-alone operation. It operates independently of external computers, eliminating the need for complex installations or connectivity concerns. The system features an intuitive interface, allowing lab staff to adjust settings, monitor solvent recovery, and maintain a full audit trail - making it both efficient and user-friendly.

Fritiof Ponten, CEO of Biotech Fluidics, commented on the system’s value: "This is a smart investment for labs that want to cut solvent costs while supporting sustainable practices. The SPR-200 pays for itself through solvent savings, offering an easy-to-deploy solution for labs committed to improving their environmental impact."

With solvent recycling now part of their daily workflow, pharmaceutical labs are taking a significant step toward achieving both sustainability and cost-efficiency in research operations.
