In pilot-scale biochromatography, column hardware must combine reproducible packing, simple handling and efficient maintenance to ensure smooth and reliable operation.

YMC Pilot^PLUS glass columns are designed specifically for BioLC applications at pilot scale. The columns are available with diameters of 70, 100, 140 and 200 mm, providing flexible options for process development and scale-up.

A metal-free flow path ensures excellent biochemical compatibility and prevents corrosion caused by salt-containing buffers or alkaline cleaning solutions such as sodium hydroxide, which are commonly used in biochromatography.

Fast and reproducible column packing
Efficient column packing is essential for reliable chromatographic performance. The YMC Pilot^PLUS design enables fast and reproducible packing procedures. The combination of drain function, infilling assistance tool and optimized piston design prevents air from being trapped during piston insertion. As a result, the packing process can be started within minutes while achieving consistent and reproducible packing results.

Unpacking and cleaning in one step
Handling during column emptying and cleaning has been simplified. The removable column body can be lifted out of the stand without tools and reinserted in an inverted position. In this configuration, a flow can be started to unpack the resin while the column is flushed simultaneously, allowing unpacking and cleaning to be performed in a single step and reducing routine operation time.

Easy and fast maintenance
The maintenance-friendly design of YMC Pilot^PLUS columns further supports efficient pilot-scale operation. Thanks to the reduced number of components, maintenance tasks can be completed quickly. Key parts such as the inlet frit and seal can be removed without tools, while standard tools are sufficient for all other maintenance steps.
