Pint-Size Hydraulic Pellet Press
Jan 15 2019
PIKE Technologies introduces Pixie, a portable hydraulic press for preparing high-quality KBr pellets for IR transmission measurements. With its ergonomic design, pellet making is easy and effortless! Pixie’s small footprint is ideal for labs with limited bench space. It fits inside glove boxes and fume hoods, and stores handily too.
Advantages of using KBr pellets are spectral reproducibility and the ability to deal with relatively difficult or limited-mass samples. KBr pellets are required by a number of standardised procedures.
To prepare a pellet, load the powdered KBr/sample matrix into the 7-mm die chamber and place the assembled die onto Pixie’s platform. Apply up to 2.5 tons of force. Simply place the die collar containing the newly formed pellet into its designated holder, and collect your spectrum. Pixie is perfect for the lab making a few or a lot of KBr pellets, and is a valuable teaching tool in college chemistry classes.
