Mini-mass spectrometer ready for evaluation

A new mini-mass spectrometer has been developed for evaluation by 1st Detect Corporation, signalling a significant development for security, industrial and research laboratory markets.

The new technology is capable of detecting trace levels of volatile compounds and can provide highly accurate and rapid analysis and detection of low concentrations and chemical compounds.

Developers believe the new technology will meet an unmet need in the laboratories, provided a superior alternative to the widely adopted ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) products.

Thomas B. Pickens III, chairman of 1st Detect, said: "We believe 1st Detect's mini-mass spectrometer technology represents a breakthrough by delivering performance comparable to large laboratory mass spectrometers in a small and affordable instrument that can reach many applications that were never before possible."

The pre-production mini-mass spectrometers provide a broad and versatile platform that is likely to be integrated with follow on products to extend its use to industrial markets such as airports, agricultural processing, chemical plants and pharmaceutical manufacturing.
