SGE Appoints ARC Sciences as UK Distributor

With emphasis on the eVol™ electronic syringe, Protecol™ HPLC columns and MEPS™ (MicroExtraction by Packed Sorbent) sample preparation products, SGE has appointed ARC Sciences as a UK distribution partner.

The eVol is an electronic microsyringe system which brings the benefits of automation to liquid handling operations where positive displacement micro-syringes are required. This results in improved accuracy and precision when dispensing liquids and preparing standards where small volumes are required. Non-Aqueous liquids, strong acids and controlled liquid dispense rates are some of the areas where eVol is useful. The device has various modes of use, such as dispense, and repeat dispense, as well as custom methods, where parameters such as volume, syringe size and speed can be configured. TLC spottingand striping is a good example where eVol can be easily used. The syringes employ a quick release and replace function, XChange and 3 syringes, 5, 50 and 500µl cover a dispense range from 0.2 to 500µl. Syringes are re-usable over many cycles, based on SGE’s Diamond Syringe range and cost approximately the same as ordinary microsyringes.

Protecolinert, lined HPLC columns are very useful for separations where chelating can cause issues with peak shape. Protecol – P columns are lined with PEEK and Protecol – G columns are glass lined.

Protecol – P are seen as specifically useful for analysing chelating small molecules and the G columns for the enhanced recovery of proteins and peptides. Protecol columns come with a range of packings which are tolerant of low pH mobile phases down to a pH of 1. In the Protecol – P range there is a high pH tolerant silica phase, HPH, very useful for demanding reverse phase separations of very basic compounds.Protecol comes in a variety of dimensions from 150µm Id to 4.6mm and lengths of 100, 150 and 250mm.

MEPS, or MicroExtraction by Packed Sorbent is an “in syringe” SPE technique which allows rapid sample clean up, (up to 20X faster) with greatly reduced usage of solvents( again up to 20 fold savings can be attained). MEPS clean-up is ideal for low volume samples, requiring as little as 3.6µl of sample and can also eliminate the need for drying steps for re-concentration. MEPS is ideal for automation and kits are available to adapt CTC, HTA 300A and Varian 8400 injectors. MEPS can also be used manually and there are XChange versions for use with the eVol electronic syringe system. MEPS has much better recovery than SPME for liquid samples. Available phases include C18, C8, C2, Mixed C8 + SAX, SAX, SCX and silica.
